Allotments in Kidsgrove
Recent years has shown a huge increase in gardening interest. The council has two allotment sites, both with long waiting lists for vacant plots. Many of the current tenants have kept allotments for most of their lives and success is awarded in local competitions for the best produce in many different categories.
Lamb Street
Situated between Lamb Street and King Street near to the centre of Kidsgrove the site has twenty five allotment gardens.
Talke Pits
Sometimes known as the Crown Bank allotments the site is bordered by houses on Kingsley Road, High Street and Monument Road, Talke Pits. There are twenty seven allotment gardens.
Both sites have set up ‘Allotment Gardens Tenants Associations’ which help to improve generally the amenity as a whole by working together with the Town Council. The tennants carry out much of the work required themselves, keeping the paths and hedges neat and tidy and taking steps to improve security at the sites. Fund raising has helped provide Community sheds and gardening tools.
