Town Crier
On Sunday 01 March 2009 a competition was held on the green outside the Clough Hall Hotel  for the position of Kidsgrove Town Crier.  The last reference to Town Criers in Kidsgrove dates back to 1871 (see historical reference).

Mr John Litherland a Service Engineer living in Harriseahead was appointed, having beaten off stiff competition from four other contestants.  Judges included the very experienced and highly regarded Town Crier of Biddulph, Mr John Litherland.

The uniform for the Town Crier is currently being produced for the council by Clough Hall Technology School and the colour is being kept secret for the time being. The Spitfire Society is donating a medallion to be worn by the Town Crier. On one face will be the head and shoulders portrait of R.J. Mitchell who was born at Butt Lane in the Parish of Kidsgrove with his name and his lifespan dates beneath.  On the reverse will be a plan view of a Spitfire.

The Town Crier will attend Town Council official meetings and events but may be available for suitable events and functions.  If you would like further details please contact the Town Clerk on 01782 782254 or kidsgrovetc@btconnect.com. More. . .
